Before generation

Prepare the reference for the mode you will use

Fast generation and clean contours depend on the source. Use a cropped, sharp image with one clear subject, avoid huge empty canvases, watermarks and noisy backgrounds, then choose the mode by what the image already contains.

Best upload: JPG, PNG or WebP under 8 MB, sharp, well-lit and cropped to the useful area. HEIC/HEIF is supported, but JPG/PNG/WebP usually decodes faster.

Traditional / Polynesia

Best source: black-and-white or high-contrast flash, Polynesian ornament, lettering or bold line art with clear outer contours, few shadows and fills that can be removed.

Graphics Contour

Best source: one readable object, animal or graphic reference with a strong silhouette, moderate shadows and minimal background. Avoid painterly gradients and crowded scenes.

Universal Semantic Trace

Best source: sharp realism, portrait, illustration or mixed style where the full subject is visible and faces, hands, hair, eyes or key details are large enough for AI interpretation.

What each mode does and how quality changes

Higher quality does not always mean more detail. For tattoo prep, quality means readable contour, controlled simplification, fewer background artifacts and a result that still leaves the artist in control.

No AI

Traditional, Polynesia...

Best for
Bold flash, ornaments, Polynesian patterns, lettering and already-clean line art.
Quality difference
Fast extraction keeps strong existing contours. It is best when the source is already graphic, but it does not understand shadows or complex forms semantically.
AI usage
No AI neurons. Use it freely for simple preparation and quick tests.
You get
A practical transfer-style draft that usually needs only size and small cleanup edits.
Geometry Lock

Graphics Contour

Best for
Objects, animals, graphic references, mixed photos and designs where shape accuracy matters.
Quality difference
AI helps understand which contours matter, then Geometry Lock keeps final lines tied to the original pixels. This gives cleaner structure with lower drift risk.
AI usage
Uses AI capacity for analysis and contour reconstruction, so it is better for references that need interpretation.
You get
A cleaner contour map with less noise and stronger control over the original silhouette.
AI trace

Universal Semantic Trace

Best for
Realistic references, portraits, shaded material, complex clients ideas and images that need simplification.
Quality difference
The AI reads subject, details and shadows to build thin readable structure lines. It can produce the highest quality first draft, but still needs artist review.
AI usage
Uses the most AI capacity because it performs semantic tracing and readability passes.
You get

Quality logic

Quality is generation plus final editor control

A good stencil is not only what the mode generates. The maker includes the minimum tools needed to turn the draft into a working transfer: correct the shape, set exact millimeter size, draw missing contours or patterns, then save or print.

Move, resize, warp, adjust contour thickness and clean the generated form before export.

Common decisions before generating

Which mode should I try first?

Start with Traditional/Polynesia if the reference is already graphic. Use Graphics Contour when the shape must stay close to the source. Use Universal Semantic Trace for complex realism or shaded references.

Why can an AI result still need manual cleanup?

A tattoo stencil is a working guide, not a final illustration. AI can select contours and simplify details, but the artist still decides which lines transfer well to skin.

When is SVG disabled?

SVG is disabled when the result looks like a low-quality edge map. Clean the PNG first or generate a cleaner version before exporting vector lines.

How do I compare quality?

Check the main silhouette, line hierarchy, missing important parts, background noise, black filled areas and whether the printed size still reads clearly.
